Sustainable Tourism and Ecotourism
For over a decade Cameron-Cole has provided Sustainable Business Strategies to a variety of organizations and government programs in the U.S. and abroad, including hotels, airports and marina facilities. Cameron-Cole has observed that today many businesses have managed their direct sustainability issues involving waste management and energy use and are moving to focus on defining their mission and designing their operations to reflect sustainable best practices. The tourism industry, in particular, is an area where identifying and improving sustainable practices can greatly decrease potential negative impacts, improve financial results, and create a more positive customer experience. Perhaps nowhere is this need greater than in developing nations and territories where unmanaged effects of tourism can negatively impact fragile ecosystems, natural resources, and cultural and ecological sites.
Cameron-Cole provides effective strategies to help build a Sustainable Tourism Program that includes “ecotourism” aspects where travel that contributes to protecting the environment and the well-being of communities, is included. Cameron-Cole has staff resources in North America and in the western Pacific, as well as affiliated resources across the globe with specialized expertise in:
Hotel infrastructure and building performance assessments (building energy use, water use, impact of guest activities) with suggested energy and water reduction strategies
Property condition assessments
Water footprints, water reduction/efficiency strategies for both interior and exterior usage, and water asset identification and development
Waste management and waste diversion programs
Development of guidance and standards for ecotourism programs and facilities
Stormwater management for businesses, marine facilities, ports and airports
Marine biology, tropical and population ecology studies
